Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has revealed he will keep faith with goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
The Spaniard has stated that he will not be selecting first-choice shot-stopper Ederson for the derby clash against Manchester United.
Ortega has been limited to appearances in the domestic cup competitions this season since joining on a free transfer last summer.
The 30-year-old has played all five of the Citizens‘ games in the competition this campaign.
And he has starred between the sticks having failed to concede a goal in City’s run to the final.
Guardiola was asked about whether the German would keep his spot when speaking in his pre-match press conference.
To which he said: “Yeah he’s going to play.
“It’s always been the same in the cups, even with Barcelona and Munich, so he’s going to play in the FA Cup.”
These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@boris_fli: “As he should!!! It’s his competition!!!.”
@RonenAg: “Good decision – especially if it will get into penalty kicks”
@AdityaChaugule: “Absolutely deserves it! Zero goals conceded in whole FA Cup season! Great shot stopper”
@MtMcfc: “Deserves it. Unreal so far in the cup.”
@banky_xo: “He’s not conceded a single goal in the FA cup and played all the games. Bring it on.”
@propsMCFC: “We are winning that game..”
@LuckyDip23: “He absolutely should do – he’s earned his place by getting us there..”
@ItsLB_City: “I’m okay with this. Don’t expect United to press hard so Ortega shouldn’t be caught out on the ball. Great shot stopper as well. Deserves the start, best of luck to him”
@MCFC_Antoine8: “I’m not sure why people are acting shocked Pep has always done this.”
