Erling Haaland ready to realise ‘biggest dream’ ahead of Man City vs Man Utd FA Cup final

Erling Haaland is hoping “dreams come true” as he closes in on a treble in his first season with Manchester City.

City have won their fifth Premier League title in six seasons and will look to add to their trophy cabinet when they play Manchester United in Saturday’s FA Cup final before facing Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10.

United are the only English club to have completed the treble, under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999, and while Guardiola’s City have dominated the domestic scene, they have yet to be crowned champions of Europe.

That’s something the Norwegian wants to change.

“It would be unreal to make this history,” said Haaland, who acknowledged he was brought to the Etihad to help City over the line in the Champions League. “This is why they bought me of course, to get this, we don’t have to hide that.

“It would mean everything. I will do everything I possibly can to try to make it happen. It’s my biggest dream and hopefully dreams do come true. But as well it’s not easy – it’s two finals against two good teams that will do everything they can to try to destroy that.

“They will be motivated, they will be ready and we have to play at our best, because if we play at our best we have a really good chance of achieving exactly that.”

Haaland scored 36 goals in the league to help City overhaul Arsenal to grab a fifth title in six seasons and admitted it was a relief to finally get over the line.

But he insisted City have put those celebrations firmly behind them as they refocus on the final two games standing between them and history. “We’ve been chasing the whole season, so when we won the Premier League it was a big relief,” he said

“Now we’ve got two finals left and now the only thing we can focus on is these two finals before the vacation.” Haaland was a huge star on the European stage before coming to City but his profile has gone stratospheric in his first season in the Premier League.

He joked that it was pretty hard keeping himself to himself when he ventures out given he is “196cm with long blonde hair”. But he insisted he was living his dream as a 22-year-old with the world at his feet.

“My life has changed of course,” Haaland said in an interview with BBC Sport. “I can’t live normally any more. That’s how my life is, I can’t complain. I try to enjoy every single moment of it and that’s how it is.

“I’m 196cm tall and have got long blonde hair, so wherever I go, people are going to see me. So that’s how my life is. What can I do? That’s my life and I just have to try to enjoy it as much as I can. Try to relax when I’m home with good people around me, that’s really important. Just try to enjoy my life.”

Haaland also fired an ominous warning to Premier League and Champions League rivals insisting he believes he can improve next season. “I’ve been developing in a really positive way and that’s really important for me because I’m still really young,” he said.

“I’m 22, I’ve got a long career ahead of me and I still have to develop. That’s also something I was thinking of over one year ago when I was thinking about my next move.”
