Man City have decided to postpone contract talks with Phil Foden until the summer, according to sources at Football Insider. The 23-year-old midfielder still has three years remaining on his current contract with the club.

Despite Foden’s desire for a new deal that reflects his importance in Pep Guardiola’s squad this season, the talks are not expected to progress further until the end of the current season. The player is reportedly seeking a pay rise that would elevate him to the ranks of the top earners at Manchester City.

Both Foden and the club are currently focused on finishing the 2023-24 campaign strongly, with City still in contention for the Premier League title, Champions League, and FA Cup. Foden has been a standout performer this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists in 40 appearances. He has been a key figure in Guardiola’s squad, particularly excelling as a right-winger.

Foden signed a contract extension in 2022 that ties him to City until 2027 and reportedly tripled his wages to £200,000 per week. Despite the delay in negotiations, all parties involved are confident that a new agreement can be reached in the summer.

In other news, Manchester City is preparing for a potential bid of over £100 million for one of their key players this summer. For more exclusive Manchester City updates, follow Football Insider on Facebook or join their new WhatsApp Channel for instant updates straight to your phone.
