Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Barcelona offered the club the chance to take Ferran Torres back to the Etihad for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
The Spain international completed a move to Camp Nou for a reported initial fee of £46.7m earlier in the winter window, in spite of Barca’s financial struggles.
However, with the Catalan giants currently forking out more wages than the La Liga salary cap allows, Torres cannot be registered as a Barca player until they trim their wage bill.
According to local journalist Lu Martin, Barcelona offered Man City the chance to re-sign Torres on loan for the second half of the campaign in a bid to stave off their concerns of shipping players out in January.
The report claims that Barca hoped their outstanding £1.25m payment for Denis Suarez’s transfer would be cleared as part of the agreement, but there is no indication that Man City would accept the offer.
Torres is still recovering from a metatarsal fracture sustained in the Nations League Finals last year and was also confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

How can they sign Haaland if they can’t register Ferran? 💀

Sorry, but any chance of Torres being welcomed back by us City fans went out the window the moment he snaked us.. He and Barca have made their beds, they’ll now have to lie in it.
