Brad Friedel, a former Premier League goalkeeper, has expressed his opinion that one Manchester City player is not as good as some other players in his position in the league. Friedel, who played for Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur, named Emi Martinez and Alisson Becker as the best goalkeepers in the Premier League currently, leaving out City’s Ederson from the list of top performers. He believes that Ederson is good for Manchester City’s team but not necessarily on the same level as Martinez and Alisson.
Ederson, who signed for Manchester City in 2017 for £35m, has made 326 appearances for the club and has won numerous trophies during his time there. However, his save percentage in the Premier League this season ranks him 13th in the division, with 68.9% of shots on target saved. This percentage is lower than Alisson’s (75.3%) and higher than Martinez’s (65.1%). Despite his achievements and success with Manchester City, Friedel does not rate Ederson as highly as some other goalkeepers in the league.
While saving shots is just one aspect of a goalkeeper’s job, Friedel’s comments about Ederson have sparked debate about the Brazilian goalkeeper’s performance and standing in the Premier League. Despite his success with Manchester City, some believe that Ederson may not be considered among the elite goalkeepers in the league compared to players like Martinez and Alisson.
