West Ham United manager David Moyes has shared an update on loanee Kalvin Phillips, following a post-match incident at Newcastle on Saturday.

Phillips, who is on loan at West Ham from Manchester City for the rest of the season, expressed frustration after the game at St James’ Park on Saturday. The 28-year-old midfielder was seen making a rude gesture towards fans as he boarded the team bus following the Hammers’ 4-3 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League.

Having made his seventh Premier League appearance for West Ham over the weekend, Phillips is aiming to revive his career after a challenging spell at Manchester City. Despite being part of City’s successful squad last season, Phillips has struggled for game time since his £42 million move from Leeds United in July 2022.

In a bid to secure regular playing time and bolster his chances of making England’s squad for the upcoming European Championship, Phillips opted to join West Ham in January despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

Despite the incident at Newcastle, Moyes has voiced his support for Phillips, emphasizing the need to stand by the player during challenging times. The manager believes that there is still potential for Phillips to excel during his time at West Ham.

West Ham are set to face Tottenham at the London Stadium on Tuesday, with the team currently sitting 7th in the Premier League and pushing for European qualification. Additionally, the Hammers are eyeing success in the Europa League, where they will meet Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter-finals.
