Manchester City, the current Premier League champions, are likely to ask for a significant portion of their original investment in any discussions about Kalvin Phillips’ transfer this summer.

Phillips, who is on loan at West Ham United, faced challenges during his time at Manchester City. A move to West Ham was seen as a way to boost his chances of playing in the upcoming European Championships.

Since joining West Ham in January, Phillips has struggled under David Moyes, delivering below-par performances and making costly errors that have affected the team’s pursuit of European qualification.

Returning to Manchester City and earning a place in Pep Guardiola’s plans seems unlikely for Phillips. The Etihad Stadium officials have already set their asking price for the out-of-favor defensive midfielder.

According to MailSport’s Sami Mokbel, Manchester City are expected to put Kalvin Phillips up for sale in the upcoming summer transfer window, aiming to recoup £30 million of their initial £42 million investment made in 2022.

In terms of replacements, Manchester City will be looking for a defensive midfielder who can provide cover for Rodri when needed. Rodri has been absent in key matches this season due to suspensions, resulting in defeats for City.

One potential target for Manchester City in the summer transfer market is Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich. The Germany international may be available for the right price as he looks for a new challenge at the highest level of the game.
