Thibaut Courtois, the Real Madrid goalkeeper, has been sidelined since August due to a torn ACL. He was close to returning to action after being involved in training and intensifying his rehabilitation. However, a setback has extended his recovery time to around four to six weeks, ruling him out for crucial matches, including the visit of City to the Bernabeu on April 9.
Courtois underwent successful surgery for a tear in the internal meniscus of his right knee, with Real Madrid confirming the news in a statement. The timeframe of his recovery makes it unlikely for him to feature in the upcoming matches, including the reverse leg at the Etihad on April 17. This is a significant setback for the team, who were hoping to have their key goalkeeper back for an important part of their campaign.
In Courtois’s absence, Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga have been filling in as goalkeepers for Real Madrid. However, they do not offer the same quality and experience as Courtois. The team has also faced other knee injuries this season, with David Alaba and Eder Militao both suffering ACL injuries. Militao is expected to be fit for the match against City on April 9, while Alaba’s return is uncertain.
