Erling Haaland has turned down an offer from a production company associated with Netflix for a new fly-on-the-wall documentary.
This is the latest sports-related project that seems to be in the works by the popular streaming platform, coming just days before Manchester City’s docu-series from their Treble-winning season is set to be released on Netflix.
Manchester City recently announced that their behind-the-scenes series covering the 2022/23 campaign, titled ‘Together: Treble Winners’, will be exclusively available on Netflix starting April 2nd.
It is believed that Netflix paid a significant sum to secure the footage from Manchester City producers and worked closely with the club’s media department to edit the content over a period of six months.
Now, Netflix has approached one of Manchester City’s players, Erling Haaland, for a behind-the-scenes documentary focusing on his on-field performance.
According to the MailSport report, Haaland declined the proposal for a documentary series on goalscoring.
It is reported that Netflix is interested in the concept after the success of ‘Quarterback’, a series offering insight into NFL quarterbacks for the 2022 season.
Aside from Haaland, MailSport also reports that Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa and Mohamed Salah from Liverpool have been approached for similar documentaries.
Manchester City has been actively producing player-specific documentary content for their media platform, with the latest series focusing on Julian Alvarez’s journey in football.
‘Julian Alvarez: Standing Alone’ highlights the Argentine player’s rise in the sport, culminating in winning the World Cup, Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in a short span of time.
