Omar Berrada’s gardening leave from Manchester City is set to end in June, as reported recently, paving the way for his transition to become the new CEO of Manchester United.

The appointment of Berrada as the incoming CEO of Old Trafford was confirmed by the club in January after a swift process with Manchester City to finalize their interest in the long-term City Group employee.

Manchester United’s statement regarding Berrada’s impending arrival stated, “The Club is committed to putting football and on-field performance back at the core of our operations. Omar’s appointment marks the first step in this journey.

“As one of the most experienced football executives in European football, Omar brings extensive football and commercial expertise, along with a track record of successful leadership and a drive to spearhead change within the Club.

“Currently serving as Chief Football Operations Officer for City Football Group overseeing 11 clubs across five continents, Omar previously held senior positions at Barcelona.”

While the announcement was made in January, it seems that Manchester United fans will have to wait a bit longer before Omar Berrada officially starts his new role at Old Trafford under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

According to information from Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, it is reported that Berrada’s gardening leave from the Etihad Stadium will conclude in June, allowing him to assume his new position at Manchester United.

It is explained that City are aware of Berrada’s ongoing meetings with Old Trafford executives but are relaxed about the situation.

Berrada has been instrumental in various aspects of Manchester City’s operations, including working alongside Txiki Begiristain on transfer negotiations and playing a key role in signings like Aymeric Laporte and Erling Haaland.

Berrada’s most notable achievement is arguably the signing of Erling Haaland in 2022, which played a crucial role in City winning their first UEFA Champions League trophy in 2023.
