According to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, his team is not yet the league champions despite their determination to fight for the title. They have returned to the top after surprising defeats by Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Cityzens took over as the new league leaders over the weekend following losses by their title rivals. Liverpool was defeated by Crystal Palace at Anfield and Arsenal lost to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.

Guardiola mentioned that his players thrive in tough title races, emphasizing that while it doesn’t guarantee a win, they will fight until the end.

“They like to play under pressure. They thrive when their backs are against the wall. It doesn’t mean we will win, but I believe we will be in the mix until the end because of the character and determination I see in them,” stated the City boss.

“Does that mean we will be Premier League champions? No, I’m not saying that. But we will definitely compete,”

“We are still in the race. It’s a privilege to be in this position. I wouldn’t trade it for any other team. We live for moments like this, playing for something meaningful, not just for the sake of it. We aim for the big trophies. And here we are, still in contention. It’s a great feeling.”

Manchester City is not only focused on retaining the Premier League title but also defending all the trophies they won last season. They face Real Madrid on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, with an eye on reaching the semifinals.

A few days later, they will clash with Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium. A win against the Blues could set them up for another shot at the FA Cup.
