Pep Guardiola’s injury concerns ahead of the Arsenal match are not likely to improve with John Stones’ uncertain status after picking up a problem against Belgium.
The English player suffered another injury setback during the recent international break, exiting the pitch within 10 minutes with an adductor injury during a match between Gareth Southgate’s team and Belgium.
Manchester City’s medical team is expected to assess Stones throughout the week leading up to the crucial match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola will be hoping for a quick recovery for Stones as the team enters a busy period with matches in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League over the next 25 days.
Despite Guardiola’s hopes, a report suggests Stones’ uncertainty about his availability after returning to Manchester on Wednesday.
According to the Daily Star’s Jeremy Cross, Stones is “losing his battle to be fit” for the upcoming match against Arsenal.
Reports indicate that Stones is undergoing scans in Manchester after returning from international duty and is not optimistic about his chances of playing against Arsenal.
This leaves Guardiola with limited options in defense, with Walker and Akanji also facing fitness doubts for the Arsenal clash.
Nunes and Ederson are also uncertain for the weekend’s match, with Ederson recovering from a thigh injury sustained earlier this month against Liverpool.
After facing Arsenal, Manchester City will play Aston Villa at home and then visit Crystal Palace in three consecutive Premier League fixtures that could impact the title race.
