Manchester City achieved a new milestone during their match against Chelsea in the semi-final of the Emirate FA Cup. They secured a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, allowing them to advance to the final for the second year in a row.
Despite being favored to win under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, Manchester City did not perform up to their usual standard during the game. They failed to meet expectations and fell short of their typical excellence.
Chelsea showed their dominance throughout the match, but despite multiple scoring opportunities in the first half, they were unable to convert. Nicholas Jackson, the main striker for Chelsea, missed all chances created by his teammates in the second half.
The breakthrough came in the 84th minute when Bernardo Silva scored the only goal of the match, sending Manchester City to the final.
Manchester City Sets New Unbeaten Record Against Chelsea
Bernardo Silva’s goal helped Manchester City set a new record with 29 consecutive games without a defeat within normal 90 minutes under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.
This surpasses their previous record set between April 2017 and December 2017 during Guardiola’s second season at the club. Manchester City has not suffered a defeat since losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in December 2023.
In their last 29 matches, Manchester City has won 24 and drawn 5, setting a new record that they will aim to extend in their upcoming match against Brighton.
Manchester City under Pep Guardiola’s leadership has become the first team to reach six consecutive semi-finals of the Emirate FA Cup. Guardiola will now target a consecutive cup win, similar to their three consecutive Premier League titles.
Following the victory against Chelsea, Guardiola’s determination to win the cup is evident, as he aims to replicate their success in the league.
Pep Guardiola Commends Determined Manchester City Players
Guardiola praised his players for their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea. Despite acknowledging that fatigue affected their ball retention, he lauded their dedication and perseverance in securing a final spot.
“The game was tight,” said the City boss. “Chelsea had incredible transitions and controlled the ball well. We lost some easy balls because we were tired. Players made an incredible effort.”
