Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a new injury, forcing him to miss upcoming international fixtures for Belgium. The 32-year-old, who had a heated exchange with manager Pep Guardiola after being substituted in Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool, will miss two Belgium fixtures due to this injury.
De Bruyne had just returned from a five-month absence in January after undergoing hamstring surgery in August. Since his return, he has played in 12 matches for Manchester City and has been directly involved in eight goals across the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. He scored a goal in his return against Newcastle United in a 3-2 victory.
Despite his return to form, De Bruyne looks set to miss Manchester City’s upcoming match against Newcastle in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals. He was left out of the Belgium squad for friendlies against England and the Republic of Ireland due to a minor groin injury.
This injury setback adds to Manchester City’s concerns, as both Jack Grealish and Ederson are currently sidelined with injuries. Manager Domenico Tedesco confirmed that De Bruyne had been playing through a minor groin issue in recent games, but it was decided that the risk was too great to include him in the international fixtures.
This is De Bruyne’s second injury concern since his return from surgery, as he previously missed games against Chelsea and Bournemouth. With Ederson also out for up to a month and Grealish’s return date unknown, Manchester City faces a challenging period ahead, including a crucial Premier League clash with Arsenal after the international break. Guardiola is expected to provide updates on the team’s injury situation ahead of their FA Cup match this weekend.
