Pep Guardiola has delivered more good news for Manchester City, in addition to Erling Haaland returning to action.
The 53-year-old shared the update during his press conference on Tuesday, confirming that Manuel Akanji is back to full fitness.
The Manchester Evening News quoted Guardiola saying, “Manu (Akanji) is back. He trained yesterday and doesn’t feel anything in his knee, it is really good news.”
Akanji sustained a knee injury in January, causing him to miss several matches. However, with his return, Guardiola is pleased to have the Swiss international back in action.
The injury had prevented Akanji from participating in Manchester City’s warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi, according to The Times.
Now that he has recovered, his return to the team is fantastic news for Guardiola. Both Akanji and Haaland started for Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final, signifying their importance to the squad.
As a result, it is expected that two players will be dropped to make room for their return to the starting XI.
The decision regarding Akanji is more complex, as other defenders have performed well in his absence. Guardiola may choose to wait before making changes to the backline.
Additionally, Akanji has been utilized in midfield at times, providing another option for the coach.
Regardless of the final decision, Guardiola is pleased to have these two talented players back and available for selection.
The return of Haaland and Akanji will further strengthen Manchester City’s lineup, providing a boost to the team as they continue their campaigns in various competitions.
Overall, the news has provided a positive outlook for the club and its supporters as they look forward to the upcoming matches.
