Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he “has everything a manager could dream” of at the Etihad, in a clear pointer towards another contract extension.
Questions on the Catalan manager’s future have intensified in recent days in light of two high-profile exit announcements in European football, with Xavi’s pending departure from Barcelona following Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield news.
Pep Guardiola’s current agreement at the Etihad Stadium runs until the summer of 2025, meaning he has just one full season remaining in charge of Manchester City, however there is a feeling of calm within the club with regards to the legendary coach’s future.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon, Pep Guardiola was quizzed on what exactly it is about his role at Manchester City that enables him to maintain such high energy and passion for the cause, and subsequently remain at the Etihad Stadium for so long.
“I said many times, I have everything that a manager could dream. I have everything!” Guardiola exclaimed.
“The hierarchy supports me, and have always. We change a lot of players in seven years, but all of them have been incredibly supportive, a good environment. So I have everything.
“Still I feel good and of course, one day it’s going to finish but I don’t think about that right now.”
Pep Guardiola was speaking ahead of Manchester City’s return to Premier League action on Wednesday night, when they host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium in their first contest in the top-flight since the winter break.
City returned from a warm weather camp in Abu Dhabi refreshed and revitalised for the second-half of the season, beginning part two of the 2023/24 campaign with a monumental victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Nathan Ake’s 88th minute winning goal in North London marked Manchester City’s first-ever goal at the newly-constructed arena, and their first away from home against Tottenham in over eight years – excluding Wembley visits.
