‘We might bottle this’, ‘Turning into a Jorginho-like saga’ – Man City fans react to latest Josko Gvardiol transfer update

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club has seen no ‘meaningful progress’ over the last few days, although that does not mean a deal is off.

City are looking to make the RB Leipzig centre-back their second signing of the summer, following the £25m arrival of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.

City believe that a deal is close, but that there are still details to be ironed out. As confirmed by Leipzig’s sporting director Max Eberl last week, Gvardiol and his representatives have made his intention to join City clear.

Personal terms have all but been agreed between club and player, but 90min reported recently that City have a bit of work to do in terms of meeting Leipzig’s asking price.

Leipzig have made it clear that they want €100m (around £86m) for Gvardiol, a sum that would make the 21-year-old the most expensive defender in history.

According to a report from Transfermarkt’s Manuel Veth, Josko Gvardiol to Man City has seen no ‘meaningful progress’ over the last few days, although that does not mean a deal is off.

Manuel Veth adds that with no progress on the incoming side for Leipzig either, a deal to see Gvardiol leave for Manchester City could take ‘some time’.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@MCFCTrickster: “We might bottle this”

@GvardiolSZNS: “We so slow in this one.”

@sanesou: “I have a feeling this is turning into a Jorginho-like saga. We don’t do enough and out of nowhere, another clubs swoops in and pay the asking price. This is honestly one of the worst transfer windows I’ve seen from City in many years. A bit concerning.”

@stubbsHenry7: “We were ready to offer 100m to Dortmund for Jude. We were ready to offer 80m + 10m to West Ham for Rice. Now we’re not ready to offer 85m to Leipzig bc it’s “too much money. If we don’t get him now we won’t get him later.”

@reztrend: “Honestly, I love the fact that City does not allow clubs to milk them. They pay what they think is the player’s value, if not they walk away.”

@FMikusiak: “Is there chance Laporte is staying or why it takes so long?”

@delmi_sofiane: “The club is waiting for laporte to bring an offer so they can sell him alongside Cancelo. The board will not sign josko while those two are still with us.”
