Erling Haaland panned for wearing ‘pyjamas’ to EA Sports launch

Erling Haaland’s new hairstyle and unique fashion sense stole the show as he was revealed as the cover star of EA Sports FC for 2024 – but fans don’t know what to make of it.

After a season in which he scored a ton of goals, it’s perhaps no surprise that Haaland will be the first cover star for the rebranded EA Sports FC 24 game.

The Manchester City and Norway striker was handpicked to feature on the front cover of the new video game – the first time it isn’t associated with FIFA.

Haaland delighted by the recognition, and he follows in the footsteps of the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, whose images have sold millions of copies of the game across the globe.

Unveiling the honour, Haaland tweeted: ‘Every footballer dreams of this. Proud to be on the cover for the first season of a new era @EASPORTSFC #FC24’.

The 22-year-old was given a WWE-style entrance as he walked out in front of a delighted crowd in Amsterdam, but fans at home spotted something else.

One viewer wrote on social media: “Haaland with dreads and in his pyjamas what am I seeing.” A second said: “Haaland rocked up to the FC24 Premier with Pyjamas, he really doesn’t rate it.”

A third posted: “Haaland rocks up in his pyjamas and says the cover ‘is not bad’ I can’t with this guy.”

A fourth agreed: “Haaland wearing his f***ing pyjamas hahahah.”

It’s not the first time Haaland has stepped out wearing designer comfies, doing so as City celebrated their Treble in a local restaurant.

Haaland was seen posing with Kim Kardashian at a Dolce & Gabbana event earlier this week, where he was also joined by rapper Future and singer Doyoung.

Indeed, the D&G brand ambassador has been ridiculed by some for his outlandish outfit choices, with one fan writing: “Bro you need a stylist tf!! 😂😂 “, while another added: “Grandma wants her dress back 😅”.

Haaland might be getting plenty of attention for his fashion choices and celebrity video gaming adventures right now, but soon he’ll be in the thick of an intense pre-season training camp with Manchester City.

The club fly over to Asia next week to play fixtures in South Korea and Japan, with the first friendly taking place at Tokyo’s National Stadium against Yokohama F Marinos on July 24.
