A recent report has revealed the one condition that would make Manchester City sign a new player after Josko Gvardiol.
The Citizens have already added a new face to their squad during this summer transfer window, with Mateo Kovacic joining on a four-year deal from Chelsea.
As previously mentioned, the Manchester club have been in talks with RB Leipzig over potentially securing a deal for Gvardiol.
Beyond that, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the club’s current stance in the transfer window and what the remainder of the summer could look like for them.
According to a new report from Sam Lee of The Athletic, uncertainty continues to hang over Manchester City’s summer transfer window and the prospect of any further business taking place in the coming days and weeks ahead.
It is stated that aside from the ongoing pursuit and negotiations for Josko Gvardiol, Etihad Stadium bosses only expect to return to the transfer market if Bernardo Silva were to finally secure a move away from the club.
Following Manchester City’s failure to sign Declan Rice ahead of Arsenal, Bernardo Silva is currently seen as the ‘perfect alternative’ in midfield as the club focus on life without Ilkay Gundogan.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
@KuchnickiIgor: “Tragic news, how does this make sense, they see Bernardo as the Gundogan replacement, they started together???? So who’s the Bernardo replacement”
@joey_banks: “No winger? What’s happening? Mahrez is not leaving?”
@hearts4seele: “Disappointed, terrible market”
@HYNZYMCFC: “This transfer window is horrific”
@DeBrxyne17: “If Bernardo Silva is the best replacement for Gundogan then who will play on the right wing?”
@Dule98: “We desperately need a winger!”
@daz_blue: “We need a winger if Mahrez goes as Palmer is going on loan. Why would we go in with 1 less attacking option than last season ?”
@Portlocks: “We should be looking to strengthen every season. Kovacic isn’t as good as Gundo so we are already weaker. We already have a small squad and we’re lucky with injuries last season. We will have even more games next season so we need more quality bodies..”
@ahmad_rodri: “I don’t understand what’s going on with our transfer plans but I trust whatever we are doing.”
@dannyquinn04: “I don’t really see what’s wrong with this. So many of our fans cry that we don’t play the youth but when we’re not signing anyone to pave the way for Bobb and Macca it’s a cause for meltdown?..”
@TheSouthernWake: “Honestly, with Kovacic and Gvardiol – this team needs nothing else if no one else leaves. I’m assuming Laporte and Cancelo are out of the picture. Kovacic, Silva, Foden, McAtee — none of these are Gundo like for like, but plenty of options that there isn’t a gaping hole.”
@TomYates9820: “Rightly so. Kova and gvardiol are perfect for the system there’s no point buying for buying sake it’s about the right players for the system, if Bernardo does stay he can play Gundos role too, pep clearly rates mcatee very highly. If Mahrez goes we maybe need a winger though.”
