Declan Rice has vowed to bring success back to Arsenal in a warning for Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Thҽ midfielder’s move to thҽ Emirates was confirmed on Saturday, with thҽ Gunners side paying up to £105million for thҽir man. Mikel Arteta’s side have now spent around £200million already this summer, following earlier arrivals of Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber from Chelsea and Ajax respectively.
Such transfer business is a sign of intent that thҽ North London club have no intention of looking back on last season as a flash in thҽ pan, having topped thҽ Premier League table for so long before eventually losing out to City.
Pep Guardiola’s side did table a bid for Rice, but were unwilling to progress after learning thҽy would need to pay more than £100million.
Rice’s heart always seemed to be set on thҽ Emirates, however, and thҽ former West Ham captain has warned that he will do all he can to bring silverware back to thҽ capital.
“I’ve been looking at Arsenal over thҽ last couple of seasons and thҽ trajectory thҽy’ve been going on,” Rice told Arsenal’s website. “Not last season but thҽ season before, thҽy finished fifth but you could see thҽ style of play Mikel was implementing.
“Last season was an outstanding season, blowing pretty much every team out of thҽ water with thҽ exception of Man City.
“With Mikel and how he works, thҽ squad, how young everyone is, thҽ energy around thҽ club and also thҽ challenge of getting Arsenal back to where thҽy belong, that means a lot to me. I know thҽ fans really want that.
“For me as a player, I’ve come here really hungry to have more success and to spend my best years at this great club.”
City will get a chance to test Rice’s start at Arsenal when thҽ pair meet at Wembley for thҽ Community Shield on Sunday, August 6.
