Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola initially had doubts about summer signing Josko Gvardiol, but the 22-year-old has quickly become a key player for the team. Gvardiol moved to Manchester City from RB Leipzig in a £77.6 million transfer in August 2023 and has already made 38 appearances, scoring three goals and winning the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Gvardiol, who previously played for Dinamo Zagreb, has primarily played as a left-back for Manchester City despite being a centre-back at RB Leipzig and for Croatia. He has been directly involved in five goals for the team so far this season and is currently aiming to help Manchester City secure a fourth successive Premier League title and win the Emirates FA Cup.
Guardiola praised Gvardiol’s recent performances, highlighting his versatility and humble personality. The manager acknowledged the challenges the defender faced in his first season in the Premier League but expressed satisfaction with his progress. Gvardiol is an important part of Manchester City’s defense alongside other key players like Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, and Kyle Walker.
