Pep Guardiola says a decision is still to be made on Erling Haaland ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Haaland, 22, suffered a groin injury before the international break and was forced to pull out of Norway’s squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Spain and Georgia.

Haaland did not appear in first-team training on Thursday. However, Guardiola has revealed that he could feature and is set to return to training on Friday afternoon.

Speaking in his pre-Liverpool press conference, Guardiola said: “Erling is recovering, tomorrow we have the last training session and we will see how he feels.”

Guardiola added: “We have the last training session at 4pm today so then we will see how he feels. We still today and especially the player will decide. We will see, we will see what happens.”

The news on Haaland comes after another major injury setback for the reigning Premier League champions, who will also be without another key player in the form of Phil Foden.

The midfielder was withdrawn from England’s international squad on Sunday after undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis and is now set for a spell on the sidelines as his side go toe-to-toe with Arsenal for top spot.

“Phil had the surgey,” Guardiola said when asked for an update on the midfielder. “The doctors tell me two or three weeks.”
