The reason behind Joao Cancelo’s shock move from Man City to Bayern Munich [report]

The January transfer window may be on the verge of ending, but that doesn’t mean it’s not absolute chaos, with one transfer coming out of thin air this afternoon and taking over completely, dominating the headlines due to the sheer shock factor.

Joao Cancelo is on the verge of joining Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in a loan deal until the end of the ongoing season, with the German club also having an option to buy the player for a reported €70 million.

Cancelo arrived in Munich on Monday afternoon, with medical tests scheduled for later in the evening and a deal expected to be completed on the same day, as Bayern look to have the current City defender available for their next game on Wednesday night.

However, while the circumstances as to why Joao Cancelo was given the green light to leave Manchester City were initially unknown, staggering details into the days leading up to his exit have now surfaced.

Why is Joao Cancelo leaving Manchester City?

The Portuguese star hasn’t been at his glittering best this season, but the rest of his teammates simply haven’t been at the same standards either, seeing a drop off in their insanely high standards, allowing Arsenal to take charge of the title race.

But why would he want to leave the side which has seen him achieve so much and thrive like he has done under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage? Well their relationship soured recently after a training ground bust up between the pair as per The Daily Mail, but what sparked their fall out?

His current lack of game time has seen the defender become increasingly frustrated in Manchester, and has thus seen his relationship with his gaffer suffer too, especially when he was left out of the starting XI on Friday night for their FA Cup clash.

Whilst City may be losing a key player, they aren’t going to be short of cash. We all know the well documented spending power they have, but Bayern have reportedly settled on a fee in the region of £61 million.

As per the report from The Daily Mail, City aren’t thrilled at losing a key player so late in the window, and have turned attentions to finding a replacement, but that appears to be a tough task given the time constraints of the transfer window.

Since the World Cup, he’s only started three games out of 10, including being hooked at half time in the victory over Chelsea. All in all it’s been a poor return to club action since the tournament out in Qatar for Cancelo.
