Manchester City are looking at Ben Chilwell from Chelsea as a replacement for Joao Cancelo who will join Bayern Munich at least until the end of this season.
City are ready to shock many by letting Joao Cancelo join Bayern Munich on an initial loan, according to The Athletic.
City’s decision to allow the full-back to leave comes amid a reported deterioration in the Portugal international’s relationship with manager Pep Guardiola, which culminated in a training ground bust-up prior to Friday’s FA Cup win over Arsenal.
The Blues are claimed to be looking to replace Cancelo, though it is yet to be seen whether the club will be active in the final hours of the January transfer window or wait until the summer.
Pep Guardiola has a strong reputation of bringing the best out of players and according to a report on the Daily Mail, the Spanish manager has turned his attention to Chilwell and could make a move for him this summer.
Chelsea are undergoing a re-building process – but Chilwell still remains a key part of their play and it will be interesting to see how they react to an approach from the Premier League Champions.
During the summer, City were heavily linked with former Brighton full-back Marc Cucurella, while the likes of Raphael Guerreiro and Kieran Tierney have all been mooted in the past.
