Man City want new signing as Pep Guardiola ‘doesn’t trust’ current player

Manchester City are reportedly in the market to sign another new full-back, months after signing Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.

Gomez joined City from Anderlecht for an initial £11million in the summer, with the club electing against loaning the Spaniard after failing to sign Marc Cucurella, who moved from Brighton to Chelsea.

And now reports are claiming that Pep Guardiola isn’t happy with the full-back’s current level, and the reigning Premier League champions could be entering the market in January as a result.

According to the latest reports, City are targeting a new full back during the January window, with summer signing Gomez reportedly not fully trusted by Guardiola.

The Athletic has reported that the left-back isn’t trusted to start games, prompting the club to target increased depth.

The Premier League champions reportedly hold an interest in Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri were also players pursued during the summer, but there isn’t a leading contender at this point.

Man City do only possess one natural left and right back, in Walker and Gomez, but Cancelo can fulfil either role, whilst Nathan Ake has deputised on the left when needed.
