‘Should be longer’, ‘Give him a life contract’ – Man City fans react as Phil Foden ‘set to sign new contract THIS WEEK’

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Phil Foden is set to follow his superb hat-trick in the Manchester derby by signing a new contract this week.

Foden became even more of a hero at City after scoring his first career hat-trick against rivals in the stunning 6-3 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

In doing so, the 22-year-old reached 50 goals under Pep Guardiola, at an even younger age than Lionel Messi did.

Foden has been at Manchester City since joining their youth academy in 2009 and made his professional debut in 2017.

The City academy graduate is set to pledge the best years of his career to the Manchester club. The forward, who is a local lad and a City fan, has never looked to leave the Etihad but talks over signing a new contract were delayed due to a change in his management.

An agreement has been in place for some time, reports Footballer Insider, and it should be finalised by the club soon; which will bring Foden closer in line with the best-paid players at the Etihad, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

According to the Athletic, a deal is now very close, with the 22-year-old expected to sign fresh terms keeping him at the club until 2027.

He played an instrumental part in City’s demolition of rivals United on Sunday alongside Erling Haaland, who also scored three to become the first player to net hat-tricks in three successive home matches.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
