Manchester City’s recent success in the Premier League is quite impressive considering their history of spending five seasons outside the top flight and facing relegation multiple times. Since 2002, however, the team has remained in the Premier League and established themselves as one of the most successful English teams over the past couple of decades.
Overall, Manchester City has won the top division title a total of 9 times, combining victories in the First Division era with their success in the Premier League. Their first title came in 1937, with additional titles won in 1968, as well as a series of successes from 2012 to 2023 under different managers. In the Premier League specifically, City has lifted the trophy 7 times, with their dominance notably increasing following Pep Guardiola’s appointment as manager.
When comparing Manchester City’s title record to their rivals, they are currently the joint-fourth most successful team in English football, alongside Everton. However, they still trail behind Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal in terms of overall top-division titles. In the Premier League alone, Manchester City are second only to Manchester United in terms of title victories, showcasing their recent dominance in English football.
