‘No disrespect to Jurgen Klopp’ – Sean Dyche explains what Pep Guardiola has over Liverpool boss

Sean Dyche has been heaping praise on Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for his man-management abilities.

Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are regarded by many as the best two managers in the world but Dyche, who regularly came across the pair when he was in charge of Burnley, believes the City chief leads the way because of how he handles his superstars.

After nine-and-a-half years at Turf Moor, Dyche was sacked by the Clarets in April amid a battle to stay in the Premier League. Despite the decision, they still dropped back into the Championship.

Dyche was speaking on Ben and Kammy’s Proper Football Podcast about which boss is the best when it comes to managing their players on a personal level.

While Dyche was willing to praise Klopp as well, he says that he respects Pep more than any other manager due to his ability to manage his players on that secondary level.

“The biggest respect I have, particularly for Pep, no disrespect to Jurgen Klopp because he’s done an amazing job as well, but with Pep it’s like managing 25 companies, that’s not just 25 players, it’s 25 mini companies with brands, agents and PR representatives, it’s like a mini company,” said Dyche.

“It’s not tactics, it’s about managing people and he’s done it exceptionally well.”

Dyche is absolutely right, this is such an underrated aspect of football management, and Pep has seemingly mastered it.

City’s squad is star-studded to say the least with some of the most famous and marketable footballers on the planet in the squad, but somehow, there never seems to be any issues with egos within the dressing room, and that’s down to Guardiola.

The Spaniard clearly commands the respect of his players in a way not many gaffers can, and while Klopp clearly does the same at Liverpool, there is more of an element of stardom amongst the City squad due to the calibre of players they’ve been signing in recent years and where they come from.
