Man City opponents are asking each other how to stop Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is causing serious headaches for opposition defenders this season, so they’re asking each other for help to the Manchester City striker, who’s backed to break ‘every single record in football’.

The Norwegian striker has made a stunning start to life at Manchester City, scoring 14 goals in ten appearances in all competitions.

The 22-year-old offers a different dimension in the final third for Pep Guardiola’s team. It doesn’t matter so much that Haaland is isolated for large periods of time when he is so clinical with the chances he is presented.

The problem posed by Haaland to opposition teams is an obvious one – he has the pace to get in behind a high defensive line and the finishing ability to score from anywhere 20 yards out from goal.

Even when opponents get close to the Norwegian, his physical strength allows him to stay on the ball. He is destined to be one of the greatest goal-scorers of his generation.

Speaking to talkSPORT‘s Kick Off show, former Premier League striker Hal Robson-Kanu claimed that City’s opponents are calling each other up in search of tips and advice before facing up against City and Haaland.

“I know for a fact that opposition players are calling other teams saying, ‘We’re playing City at the weekend, how do we stop Haaland?'” Robson-Kanu said.

“What he’s [Haaland] doing for City now makes me think that if he stays fit and plays all the games for the next decade at City then he breaks every single record in football. This guy is a monster, that is the way to describe him.”

This is the frightening thing for opponents who believe they have a plan to stop Haaland – the Norwegian striker is still young and will continue to adapt his game. At 22, Haaland can the face of Manchester City for years to come. More Premier League defenders will try and fail to stop him.
