Report: Manchester City submit first offer for Sergio Gomez, likely to be rejected by Anderlecht

Manchester City have reportedly made a formal offer for Anderlecht star Sergio Gomez as they step up their hunt for a new left-back.

Pep Guardiola and co have been targeting Marc Cucurella for several weeks but negotiations between Brighton and the Premier League champions have allegedly ended, with the Citizens required to increase their offer if they wish to re-open talks with the Seagulls.

The 24-year-old is looking more likely to join Chelsea in the ongoing window and Manchester City have started identifying alternative options.

Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad reported on Tuesday that the Premier League champions have begun talks with the Jupiler Pro League side to sign Gomez, after pulling out of the race for Marc Cucurella.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri as relayed by Sport Witness, the Citizens have made a formal offer of €7m (plus €3m in bonuses) to sign Sergio Gómez.

As per the report, this first offer will likely be rejected by Anderlecht, who value their player at €15m.

it ‘remains to be seen’ whether the 21 year-old will be allowed to leave for that offer but it’s been claimed that Anderlecht have decided to not play Gomez for the time being to avoid any potential injuries as they continue talks with the Premier League champions over his exit.

Last campaign, Gomez was named Anderlecht’s Player of the Season after bagging an incredible seven goals and 15 assists in all competitions from the left-back position.
