Real Madrid are planning to sign Manchester City new boy Erling Haaland in 2024 when a release clause comes into effect in his contract at the Etihad.
It must be noted that City announced last month they had beaten off competition from Europe’s top clubs to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund after triggering Haaland’s reported £51 million ($63 million) release clause.
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract to follow in the footsteps of his father Alfie Inge Haaland, who played for City between 2000 and 2003.
The Norwegian striker has just arrived at the Etihad and is set to walk out in sky blue for the first time in pre-season next month.
But Real Madrid have not lost track of Haaland and are already planning to secure him in two years’ time.
According to Spanish sports daily AS, Real Madrid are plotting to snare Haaland away from the Etihad in 2024 by activating his release clause.
The report claims that Real asked the player to wait around for at least another season as Florentino Perez does not see the signing of a No. 9 as a priority as things stand, with Karim Benzema on fire since Cristiano Ronaldo departed in 2018.
Haaland’s €150m clause becomes active in two years and it is stated that his decision to join City has not had a negative impact on his relationship with Madrid.
Real Madrid consider Haaland as the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema, bearing in mind that the Frenchman’s contract is expected to expire in the summer of 2024.
