Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club plan to make contact with Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips after England have played their final Nations League fixture.
The England international has been links to the very top of the Premier League recently, with Manchester City showing strong interest in the midfielder as a replacement for the departing Fernandinho.
Had Jesse Marsch’s men been relegated from the Premier League this past season, you would imagine that the 26-year-old would be one of the first players to move on.
Phillips has two years left on his current deal, having signed his previous five-year extension back in 2019 to ward off interest after failing to seal promotion under Marcelo Bielsa.
They may have to stave off some serious interest if they hope to get Phillips to stay. Previous reports have claimed that even Liverpool want the midfielder.
According to a report from ESPN, a deal is still on the table and the Cityzens plan to reach out to Leeds once England have completed this current round of Nations League games.
As per the report, Kalvin Phillips is admired by both Guardiola and City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, but a move has been complicated by Leeds’ escape from relegation.
ESPN notes that Manchester City have distanced themselves from moves for both Declan Rice and Frenkie de Jong which does seems that Phillips is the key target.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Injuries are a huge concern tbh. What’s the harm in letting Zinchenko do that role if we do bring in a LB. If Pep can turn him into a competent LB, surely he’s got a shot at being a solid back up CDM.”
