‘Not surprised’, ‘Pep wants to bring his clone back’ – Man City fans react as Pep Guardiola moving to add ex U23 manager to backroom staff

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola wants Enzo Maresca back in his backroom staff as an assistant.

Maresca was Manchester City Under-23s manager during the 2020/21 season. He also served as assistant manager to Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham before his previous stint at the Etihad.

The Italian got an opportunity to take charge of Serie Be side Parma in the summer of 2021 and he decided to take up that offer. However, his time back home did not work out as planned and he was sacked by the Italian second division side in November last year.

And it has been claimed that Maresca is now on his way back to Manchester City this summer in a new role.

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, the former Manchester City Under-23s boss is set to return to the club as part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff this summer.

The Italian will hope to rebuild his reputation in England again before taking another crack at management in the future.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“I think one reason of this happening is because Carlos vicens is reported to leave. Enzo can be added back as defensive coach if you ask me..”

“This is surely because the EDS player numbers training with the first team is getting pretty big and so more coaches are needed to work with them.”

“All our backroom staffs leave and get sacked at their next appointment. Examples include Enzo, forgotten the name of the one who left to coach in MLS was also fired months after. I hope Vixens ain’t the next to be fired.”
