Super-transfer reporter, Fabrizio Romano has provided Manchester City fans with the latest update on Ilkay Gundogan‘s situation at the Etihad.

The 31-year-old, who has made 252 appearances for the Citizens across a five-and-a-half-year period, has scored 47 goals for City since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

Gundogan is out of contract at the end of next season, which will take his time at City to seven years. It was reported in March that City are expected to offer the German midfielder an additional 12 months, taking him through to summer 2024.

A report from Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail yesterday broke the exclusive news, claiming the 31-year-old was spotted boarding a private jet to Madrid from Manchester Airport on Monday.

Further information Sam Lee has revealed sources close to Gundogan have said that he has actually flown to Rome with his fiancée for two days off, but also admits there is a possibility that he leaves City this summer, with talks planned with the club after the season.

This report was backed up by Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano, who say a move from Man City is a possibility as Gundogan is tempted by other opportunities.

Fabrizio states that Some clubs are already waiting for a decision and exploring Gundogan situation – including the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, and Bundesliga sides.

The Journalist went further to add that talks are ongoing between Ilkay Gundogan’s agents and Man City officials, however there is no discussion about a new contract.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.

“if Barcelona are interested, reckon we could use him as leverage in a De Jong deal? It would probably be a deal similar to Cancelo.”

“Might be part of FDJ deal with some cash. I feel like Barca has a lot of young talent they just need cash and some experienced players to help them blend in. That’s why they’re for all these experienced out of contract (or close to)players (FFP reasons).”

“If the World Cup wasn’t coming up, I think Ilkay would stay and move on a free next summer but if Pep can’t assure him playing time, he probably needs to move to make sure he’s in contention to play decent mins in Qatar.”
