‘It’s a win-win’, ‘They said the same thing about Aguero’ – Man City fans react as club ‘made Real Madrid proposal’ to charm Erling Haaland

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have told potential summer signing Erling Haaland that he can use them as a stepping stone to Real Madrid.

The Citizens are believed to be leading the race for the 21-year-old’s signature, while La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on his situation.

After weeks of speculation regarding his future and where his next destination could be, several reports are now pointing towards Manchester City being the successful suitor.

Although reports that a deal has been agreed are premature as things stand, a new development from a high-ranking source in the latter has provided new information, which will most likely get Many Man City fans attention.

According to Journalist Guillem Balague via BBC, part of the discussions to convince Haaland to join City apparently involved the Manchester club insisting he would be allowed to join La Liga giants Real in the future.

The Journalist believes Haaland has been told to ‘have a few years’ under Guardiola before moving to Spain.

“Real Madrid are his (Haaland) number one choice, but City are playing on the fact that at Madrid there is Kylian Mbappe almost certainly arriving in the summer and Karim Benzema is still doing well as their main striker. And they are pointing out that Barca aren’t in a position to challenge for all the titles at the moment,” he told BBC.

“The timing and circumstances actually play in favour of City a bit. The way City approached it was also to say ‘you’re very young, have a few years here and then you can have Real Madrid in the future’.”

In light to the update, many Man City fans have reacted – here are some of the best responses.

“Go get a striker that is ready to give his all for the club. Not pay 600k a week for 3 years for him to do what Ferran did. Pep was right when he said we cannot replace Aguero no matter how.”

“If he doesn’t want to come to City and bleed pale blue he should just go to Madrid. We don’t need mercenaries. Alvarez is coming anyway. This City twerking for someone who is apparently not that keen should be beneath us..”

“Highly doubt city said this in exact words. probably just said they won’t stand in the way of Haaland if he wants to leave towards the end of his contract, like we do with all players. same thing happened with Leroy.”

“In worst case, we end up with one of the best strikers in the world at the age of just 21 for the next 4-5 years. In best case, he’ll enjoy being here and keep renewing until he retires. It’s a win-win no matter what.”

“This is a very smart way to go about it, in my opinion. He has a connection to the club, he’ll still play with a ton of passion and desire. And when he’s destroyed the Premier League he can move on to play for a more prestigious club. No problems at all with that.”

“Its not rocket science Haaland wants another pay day in about 3/4yrs, but 3yrs of Haaland and him going for the release clause set by City, is a win win. You never know, he may stay longer but let’s get him in first..”

“I’m torn but ultimately I don’t really see a problem with it. Not every player will spend the majority of their career at City, we’ve been spoiled by the likes of Aguero, Silva, Kompany De Bruyne and more. Plus, the future is unpredictable. The first task is getting him to City..”
