Where Ferran Torres Fee Could Be Reinvested, “perfect” replacement ‘found’ for just £40m

Manchester City could use the money raised by selling Ferran Torres to Barcelona to buy his replacement from a Premier League rival, according to latest reports from England.

Barcelona and Manchester City finally seem close to agreeing a deal for Torres for an initial fee in the region of £45million, doubling their money on the Spanish winger.

Although his departure now looks imminent, it’s unclear whether City will look to bring in a replacement, given the plethora of attacking talent already at the club.

Torres has impressed since arriving for £20m from Valencia in August 2020, scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances for Man City after finding his role as a central striker to replace Sergio Aguero.

The attacker’s move to Barcelona has made City fans hopeful that the money raised could be spent on finally bringing a top-class centre-forward to the club.

But the club could secure a replacement for Torres for just £40m from a Premier League rival, however.

The Manchester Evening News reports that West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen would be the “perfect” replacement for the departing forward – and that he could be available for £40m.

The report states: “One of Bowen’s most appealing traits beyond what he offers on the ball is his work ethic off it. He’s best summarised as selfless, energetic and aggressive in terms of leading a press from the front.

These traits are essential for any attacker if they want to thrive at City, given how aggressively Guardiola’s men press their opponents from the front.”

However, a separate report from the Telegraph claimed the fee generated through the sale of the Spanish international is ‘likely’ to be invested towards bringing a ‘pedigree striker’ in at the Etihad Stadium.

The report went further to suggest that Manchester City are one of the clubs in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s in-demand frontman Erling Haaland next summer.
