‘Stop it’, ‘We need a bloody striker’ – Some Man City fans react as Pep Guardiola hints at reason for goalscoring problem

Pep Guardiola indicated that Manchester City need to be better at taking chances rather than creating them after two games without a goal.

Wednesday’s surprise Carabao Cup exit at West Ham was compounded by a shock 2-0 defeat on Saturday as Crystal Palace claimed a win at the Etihad Stadium.

The Blues have netted a very respectable 37 goals in 15 games across all competitions this season , averaging two or three every match.

However, despite creating a number of good opportunities, City couldn’t find a goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday. The visitors became the first opponents this season to have a better xG than City as the Blues stuttered to just 0.75.

Such frustrations led to a predictable reaction from some quarters that City still need a traditional centre-forward to finish chances, but Guardiola while pointing out that they had no problem scoring in some games, the City manager pointed towards the latter.

“We created a lot of chances at West Ham. A lot. And we concede few. Today [Saturday], except for five or 10 minutes, it was the same. We produced more but unfortunately we have to score goals,” he said.

“We know it but we are able to score four or five in games. Brighton is an exceptional team, they had conceded five goals [in eight Premier League games] before we got there and we scored four. So we are a team who are able to do it, but against teams that defend so, so deep sometimes it is difficult to find the right moment to punish them.”

These Guardiola’s comments on the reason for Man City’s goalscoring problem has prompt some Sky Blues to react on social media.
