Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Danny Mills made a comparison with Manchester City on Sky Sports.
Several key Liverpool players have been injured for significant stretches, particularly in defence where Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all likely to miss the rest of the season.
The red won their first Premier League title last season but currently find themselves in eigth place, 22 points back of Pep Guardiola’s side.
And former City full-back has suggested that Jurgen Klopp and his side should have coped better with the mass amount of injuries they’ve had throughout the season.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Show, the 43-year-old said: “You have to look around and say, well, Manchester City had injuries last season with Laporte. They didn’t lose nine games, they weren’t this bad.”
‘There has to be a point where you’re looking at these losses and think: ‘Right, we’ve got to change the way we play, even if it’s for a game or two, we’ve got to stop this losing streak’.
“I think it’s the fact they haven’t scored – they’ve scored hardly any goals, which seems incredible.’
“Mo Salah is still up there, but what is it, one goal they’ve scored from open play in the last six or seven games? That’s not good enough for Liverpool.”
Liverpool supporters have been reacting to these comments from Mills and have unsurprisingly been left unimpressed.
They had 1 bad injury at CB and he thinks he can compare them to us 🤣wow https://t.co/Ked5PN7Lyl

Danny Mills has compared Man City's injury crisis last season,to that of Liverpool's this season.😳

Football punditry has hit a new low.
They literally had a £50 million pound CB sitting on the bench as pep chose not to play him, yet this season he’s part of one the best cb partnerships, ie John stones. Slightly different to a club having 0 senior CB”s???? 🤡🤡

Laporte v Van Dijk, Gomez, Matip, Jota, Keita, Mané, Henderson…

Not really the same is it though!
Because Liverpool fans tell us to stop using injuries as an excuse. Works both ways.

Liverpool have been unlucky with injuries but that misfortune has highlighted underlying issues with a squad that has probably just passed its peak. Losing Laporte versus losing your only three CBs can’t be compared, but the Red Should be better than what they have been recently.
