Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report of the club’s interest in Sporting CP left-back Nuno Mendes.
The 18-year-old left-back is enjoying an excellent season with the Portuguese giants, who are currently nine points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga.
It’s clear City need a new left-back with Benjamin Mendy failing to push his game on, due to recurrent injuries coupled with poor form that is starting to turn into a liability for Pep Guardiola.
The use of Zinchenko and the recent form of Joao Cancelo may have provided yet another short-term solution, but a competent true left-back is needed at the club.
According to Portuguese newspaper Record on Friday, Manchester City have ‘initiated exploratory contacts’ with Sporting Lisbon over the possible signing of their left-back, Nuno Mendes.
The report claims ‘many possibilities’ were put on the table, including the one where City sign him now and let him spend another season at Sporting.
The report however says the Cityzens are mostly focused on signing a striker, but the left back position comes next, as they want to ‘renew’ that sector.
Mendes has made 18 league starts for the Lisbon-based side this term, and is under contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, protected by a release clause of €70m.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, Many man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
He’s like the new Alphonso Davies and he’ll almost definitely be lower than 70m.

Very good player! 70m is a lot but he’ll be a top star in a few years. He’s someone I assumed Real Madrid would hoover up.

he’s really highly rated in Portugal but cmon 70 mil for an 18 year old lb is a bit much even for us

Getting an 18 year old means Mendy or Zinchenko will be the main left backs I believe
