Manchester City have reportedly already made contact with Sporting Lisbon as they look to steal a march in the race for teenage left-back Nuno Mendes.
The 18-year-old is enjoying an excellent season with the Portuguese giants, who are currently nine points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga.
Nuno Mendes, who has been with Sporting from the age of 10, only made his senior first-team debut under a year ago and has already attracted scouts from elite clubs across the continent.
Portuguese newspaper Record on Friday reported that City have ‘initiated exploratory contacts’ with Sporting Lisbon over the possible signing of the left-back.
According to latest report from AS, Mancester City are looking to get ahead of the competition for the 18-year-old and have already reached out to Sporting Lisbon and Pep Guardiola urged the club to touch base with the club over a proposed deal.
The Portugal Under 21 wonderkid, describe by a City fan as ‘the new Alphonso Davies’ has a buy-out clause from €45 million to a staggering €70 million.
It’s clear City need a new left-back with Benjamin Mendy failing to push his game on, due to recurrent injuries coupled with poor form that is starting to turn into a liability for Pep Guardiola.
The use of Zinchenko and the recent form of Joao Cancelo may have provided yet another short-term solution, but a competent true left-back is needed at the club.
