Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to react after Pep Guardiola says he does not think that the Citizens will be able to fund a move for a new striker in January.
Speculation continues to mount over the club’s greatest ever goalscorer Sergio Aguero’s future, with the 32-year-old – who has been struggling with a knee injury – about to enter the final six months of his Etihad deal.
City have struggled up front all season for goals, with Guardiola still not happy with the wastefulness in front of goal.
That left Guardiola’s men with just19 goals from their 13 Premier League matches, 18 fewer than at the same stage last season. A new striker the most obvious solution to the shortage of goals
But asked about the possibility of signing a forward, Guardiola said: “No I don’t think so. The economic financial situation is what it is. All the clubs struggle and we are no exception.”
Guardiola believes City will start scoring regularly again as they have throughout his time at the Etihad Stadium.
“It’s not a lack of rhythm – it’s a lack of momentum to score goals,” he added. “They make good situations, it’s not rhythm, it’s momentum. Goals are something special, it’s a touch and a flow and now we don’t have it.
“At the same time we will get closer to it by winning games and that’s why [Saturday] was so important.”
