The 26 year old defender has had limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola over the past few seasons having fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad, but recently has impressed after been handed an opportunity by the City boss in the starting XI

I’d definitely say it’s worth extending his contract, been solid since coming back

Amazing how in 3 or 4 games he’s turned it round from a player that looked like leaving to being an integral part of the squad 😍 he had the mentality to get back into the first team. Well done him 💙

I criticized him but always wanted him to stay and work harder!!! So happy for John

The injuries have screwed him over. 17/18 until he was injured he was our best Centre-back. 18/19 until he got injured was our best centre back. He’s not too injury-prone either, just got as timing of injuries. Even if he gets injured again, he shows quality when he plays

He haven’t played enough against top teams to be considered a contract renewal. Another 5-yesr contract and he’ll get comfortable.
