Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has urged Pep Guardiola to strengthen his attacking options with a proven striker to beat Liverpool to Premier League title.
City were put to the sword in their Premier League home opener, and their striker injury crisis was a hot topic for debate. With both Sergio Agüero and Gabriel Jesus out for multiple weeks at the least, Guardiola was forced into a difficult decision at arguably the most important position on the pitch
With both striker injured, Pep Guardiola had to rely on 17-year-old Liam Delap and Raheem Sterling unday’s 5-2 demolition at the hands of Leicester. Sterling is a fine player, and Delap shows promise, but neither offer what Aguero or Jesus would.
City boss Pep Guardiola has been told to strengthen his attacking options with a proven striker and Vardy has been suggested as the perfect man. Hutchison believes Vardy is the type of striker City need to bring in before next Monday’s transfer deadline.
The pundit told ESPN FC: “It might be a topic for a different day but when Robin van Persie went to Man United for that one season and guaranteed Man United the title, it’s almost like Guardiola needs to do that with Jamie Vardy.
“Find someone that’s completely different to what he’s got.”
Most fans believes the problematic position for City is left-back, but what City actually need urgently is a third striker. There are already three viable alternatives to Mendy for City’s left-back position – Nathan Ake, Joao Cancelo and Aleks Zinchenko.

City do need a proven striker that would be second choice when Agüero returns, and will provide competition to get the best out of Jesus Gabriel. Vardy as suggested by Hutchison and Harry Kane are just that guys Pep Guardiola.
Another option is 33-year old Uruguayan Edinson Cavani who has been one of Europe’s elite strikers for the last decade, but is currently without a club. With the window winding down and City having already spent big money on other positions, Cavani is easily the best available short-term option to get them through this crisis.
While it is too early to write off City’s title hopes, they will need to improve significantly if they are overhaul Champions Liverpool. The signing of Ruben Dias would definitely improve Man City.
Not only will Dias bring some much-needed organisation to City, he will also fit into Pep Guardiola’s passing approach without too much trouble.
