Manchester City now firm favorites for Premier League title after the Citizens climbed to No. 2 with a game in hand after routing Crystal Palace 4-0 on Sunday evening.
The Citizens now have 35 points from 17 games, two behind leaders Manchester United and one ahead of champions Liverpool having played one match less.
For the first time this season, City have won five successive league games and have not lost since November in all competitions.
Former England defender Micah Richards feels Manchester City can win the Premier League if they sign a forward in the January transfer window.
“I know they are winning games but just when you want to break down a side later on like Liverpool, United or Chelsea, I think they need a striker, just to put the icing on the cake. And if they get a striker in January, I’ll still say Manchester City,” Richards said.
“I backed them at the start of the season but when you lose a player like Aguero… Liverpool have done well without Van Dijk and Gomez as well, so I’ll always give them a shout as well,” added Richards.
After an uncertain start to a delayed campaign, City now look anything but strugglers. The relentless consistency that was the foundation for titles wins in 2018 and 2019 is slowly returning.
Pep Guardiola’s men seem to be in top gear at exactly the right time of the season. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Foden, Ilkay Gündogan, John Stones and Bernardo Silva have made up for the lack of Aguero’s goals this season.
