Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has filled in for Ederson in the last four matches due to injury issues. Ortega, who has not yet signed a contract extension with the club, has proven himself with his performances, including keeping a clean sheet against Arsenal and making crucial saves against Aston Villa. Despite uncertainty over his future at the club, Ortega hopes to remain first-choice even when Ederson returns.
Ortega joined Manchester City on a free transfer in 2022 and has made a total of 27 appearances for the club. As negotiations for a new deal have stalled, there is a possibility that Ortega could be sold by the end of the season. While Ortega acknowledges it will be hard if he has to return to the bench when Ederson recovers, he remains focused on supporting the team and continuing to perform well when given the opportunity.
With Ederson’s return date uncertain, Ortega is preparing for upcoming fixtures against Crystal Palace and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. He is determined to prove himself as a reliable goalkeeper and hopes that his recent performances will earn him a continued place in the starting lineup, despite the competition from Ederson. City will need both goalkeepers at their best as they face a busy schedule with eight matches in April, including an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
