Manchester City is keeping an eye on Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen as uncertainty looms over the future of Stefan Ortega. Despite being primarily a back-up to Ederson, the German shot-stopper has performed well when given the opportunity. Ortega recently filled in for Ederson during his injury absence, but it is believed he may seek a starting role elsewhere in Europe, prompting City to look for a new back-up option.
With the potential departure of Ortega, City may need to enter the transfer market to find a new goalkeeper. Reports suggest that City, along with Arsenal and Liverpool, have been monitoring Jorgensen’s performances. Other Premier League teams like Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in the Danish goalkeeper, who has played 31 games for Villarreal this season, conceding 54 goals and keeping four clean sheets.
Jorgensen has been with Villarreal since 2017 and has impressed with his performances in La Liga and Europa League competitions. The 22-year-old has also switched allegiances from Sweden to Denmark, showcasing his talent and potential to succeed at a higher level in European football. City and other top-flight clubs are closely watching Jorgensen’s development as they consider their goalkeeping options for the future.
