Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Lucas Paqueta’s agents, signaling their eagerness to sign the 26-year-old playmaker ahead of the summer transfer window. Talks with West Ham United, where Paqueta currently plays, have not yet commenced. Last summer, Manchester City had initially targeted Declan Rice but ended up shifting their focus to Paqueta, who expressed interest in a move after only one season at West Ham.
There were rumored betting charges against Paqueta, which may have caused Manchester City to exit the race for the midfielder last season. Instead, they signed Matheus Nunes from Wolves, a move that hasn’t fully paid off. Despite this, there is growing speculation that City will renew their interest in Paqueta this summer, with reports indicating that personal terms have already been agreed upon. It is expected that talks with West Ham will happen soon, with the club looking to make a substantial profit on the Brazilian.
With impressive stats of eight goals and seven assists in 36 games this season, Paqueta could be the missing link in Manchester City’s midfield. Guardiola is keen on shaping his midfield and finding a replacement for players like Ilkay Gundogan, who left last summer. If a deal with West Ham goes through, Paqueta could provide the creative spark and goal threat that City’s midfield currently lacks, potentially filling a crucial role for the Premier League champions.
