Manchester City’s on-loan defender Jadel Katongo is seen as a potential future player for Pep Guardiola’s team at the Etihad Stadium.
The young player has been on loan at Peterborough United in the 2023/24 season, aiming to help them secure promotion to the Championship by the end of the campaign.
Katongo has been a part of the City Football Academy for almost ten years, progressing from the Under-8s to the Under-18s and Elite Development Squad.
The 19-year-old defender has appeared in 22 Sky Bet League One matches this season, even scoring in a recent win against Stevenage.
Katongo has also played in various competitions for Peterborough, including the Carabao Cup, Emirates FA Cup, and EFL Trophy.
His strong performances have earned him a call-up to the England Under-20s team for a European Elite League match against Poland.
With Katongo’s contract at Manchester City expiring this summer, there is uncertainty about his future beyond the current season.
Peterborough manager Ferguson has expressed interest in having the young player back on loan next season and believes he could feature for Manchester City’s first team in the future.
“Jadel has been outstanding for us. He picks things up quickly and has a great temperament,” he told the Peterborough Telegraph.
“The loan has done him good and if City played him, and I know they rate him highly, he’d breeze through games.”
City may consider sending him to a Championship club next season, but Peterborough is open to having him return.
Peterborough, who faced Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup in March 2022, continue their push for promotion with a match against Carlisle United next Friday.
