Manchester City are reportedly interested in making a move for West Ham United star Lucas Paquetá this summer, after failing to secure the creative midfielder last summer due to allegations of betting breaches. An £80 million deal was agreed in principle last year, but the situation was put on hold pending the outcome of the investigation. City are still said to be keen on the player, but will only make a move if he is cleared of any wrongdoing to avoid a situation like Newcastle United faced with Sandro Tonali.

West Ham are open to letting Paquetá leave if their asking price is met, with the player also reportedly keen on an exit. The price tag stood at £80 million last summer, but it’s unclear what the London club will demand this year, which will likely depend on the outcome of the investigation. Despite the ongoing situation, Paquetá has been performing well for West Ham this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Paquetá has also spoken about his struggles with the English language, needing help to communicate effectively when Emerson, another Brazilian teammate, is not around. The player referred to his current level of English as “survivor mode,” expressing anxiety when he has to communicate in the language without assistance. Despite these challenges, Paquetá has continued to excel on the field, and his future at West Ham may depend on the resolution of the ongoing investigation.
