Manchester City is currently in a tricky situation as they try to secure Stefan Ortega Moreno’s future at the club, with negotiations for a new contract hitting a roadblock. The team was keen on extending Moreno’s stay at the Etihad after he delivered a solid performance as a backup to Ederson last season. Moreno played in City’s FA Cup campaign, as well as some Premier League and Champions League matches, showcasing his talent and potential.
However, since the initial reports, there has been no progress in the contract talks. Florian Plettenberg recently provided an update on the situation, suggesting that discussions between City and Moreno have stalled, with Anderlecht showing interest in the player.
City fans are hopeful for a breakthrough, but at the moment, there is no indication of Moreno extending his contract beyond 2025. Despite his current contract running until 2025, talks have hit a roadblock, potentially paving the way for his departure in the summer. Plettenberg also highlighted that other clubs, including Anderlecht, are monitoring the situation closely.
While Ederson is firmly established as City’s number one goalkeeper, Moreno has been a valuable asset to the team, providing solid performances when called upon. Losing Moreno would be a blow to City, but the team is hopeful of retaining him and securing an extension to his contract.
With other clubs interested in Moreno, including Bayern Munich, City will need to act swiftly to ensure he remains a part of their squad. Moreno’s readiness to become a starting goalkeeper elsewhere may lead to his departure, but City will aim to convince him to stay and continue his contribution to the team.
